i'm personally running skunk2 coil overs with Tokico 5 way adjustable struts & it's very stif, i wouldn't recommend it for a daily drivin vehicle, especially if your going to have your kid in there. You don't want to bounce the crap out of the baby.
Okay, here's my 2 cents on the subject...and at the end some advice would also be appreciated.
I have a 98 Civic, and its a daily driver, and I lowered it approx 1.75" with HR springs a long time ago. I also had some 17" Racing Harts on them, and I too was told that I didn't need a camber kit. After I lowered my car, drove for a bit, had my alignment done....which should have corrected the toe, atleast on the printout it did. Then basically I forgot about them....and I think i probably got about 40,000 miles on the tires before the insides were bald and needed replacing. New tires are very expensive...so it is my personal experience that when you lower your car....(even if you're talking 1.5") that you get a camber kit. Kits, cost about $150-200, but think about how much a new set of tires cost. To finish the story, i bought new tires, and had a camber kit installed (front/rear) and alignment done, and i've been riding those tires for atleast 40,000, and I still have good tread left....but more importantly the tire wear is even. I know it costs more..and just getting springs to lower your car is cheap....but in the long run, if possible squeeze out the extra dollars to get it all done right....it'll save you money and more importantly headaches later on.
Now along the same lines, I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me out. I've had my car lowered for probably about 100,000 now, and this whole time i've been riding on my stock shocks. (and really i've enjoyed the ride quality, its not very stiff at all). And for the most part, my shocks feel fine, but i noticed that when i recently jacked my car up in the front...that the wheel didn't follow the body. So eventho my stock jack was all the way extended, my tire was barely off the ground! I've been asking around and most people say its a problem with my shocks. I haven't noticed a dip in my ride quality, but the problem is concerning. Any imput on this problem I have? Also, I would then be looking to purchase new shocks, and I am wondering what is good to buy. I know Koni yellows are the best....but they are also very expensive....plus I don't think i need all that adjustable stuff....im not a racer....i just drive to work and back, and I don't want a super stiff ride. Looking on e-bay i see a set of drop-zone shocks, those are pretty cheap. Does anybody have those on their car? or know how they ride?
The next cheapest set of shocks i can find are tokico blue HP for about $220. How are those? Are there any shocks you can think of around that price range...and where can I get them? Thank everybody for taking the time to help me out!

Not too sure about dropzone but many people would tell you to stay away from it. It may have some longterm quality issues. Tokico is a known brand but most people seem to be buying their illuminas than the blue. Not a real expert in shock brands except omnipower. Hopefully someone can provide more insight for you. Here is bump for ya!
Since we're talking about suspension, I have been looking to drop my car as well. Still I'm new to all of this, so bear with me. I own a 99 civic SI, currently i am running on 15 si wheels. I want to go buy 16's for my car...probably a bronze or so (my car is red). I probably want to go 1.25 to 1.5 drop front and rear. If im gonna lower it i wanna do it right to prevent problems in the future. So im trying to figure out the right kit to get. It's a daily driver, not for autocross or anything. I don't want to buy something that is too much for daily driving. I know i'll need springs, shocks, and i should probably get camber kit. Would someone please let me know what the best route for me to go with would be. Anyone that has an si and has a setup please help if possible. Also i don't know how to do all the work by myself, so i could either get a friend to do it or get someone to do it professionally, which means more money...how much would it cost me roughly for labor if i had to go professionally installed? Any help on this would be great thanks guys!
