mobil 1 makes a great filter but another look would be the wix filter available at pepboys or car quest. car quest has their own oil filter which is cheaper and it is made by wix.

 

I currently use Purolater Pure 1. However the study suggests that although it is the best at filtering, it has too much filter element and is too restrictive - that may lead to oil starvation. Looks like I may have to switch to Mobile 1 next time. BUT DEFINITELY STAY AWAY FROM FRAM.

 

I always use Purolater Pure 1's myself. My motor blew up recently though, so I dont know if I should be trusted, haha.

 

did your motor "blow up" because of oil starvation or anything associated with the oil filter? I'm sure there had to be other factors.. i've been running them for the last few years and had no catostaphic failure. Let us know, I'm sure we need to know if purolator makes a self destructing oil filter.

 

The PCX (S2000) oil filter is a direct fit on any Honda engine. It uses the same thread pattern and gasket sizes. Honda doesn't use them on anything other then the S2000 and NSX because they are more expensive to produce and ship from Japan versus the domestically produced PLM. The PCX is still made by Toyo Ruki of Japan, as is the tiny Insight filter.

The standard PLM is contracted out to Fram/Honeywell. I've seen them with a third brand name that I can't recall, however all the current ones will be marked "Fram" or "Honeywell." Odd, because Fram and Honeywell is the same company.

 

There was a thread back in the old days when they were talking about Honda changing filter manufacturers. From the thread, the oil filters were made by Filtech and the current ones by Fram. Some people are starting to us OEM S2000 filters made by Toyo Roki (Staying Japanese).

 

Also Fram is not the only current OEM manufacturer. There is also Honeywell and may be a third out there too. But then again Fram may be owned by Honeywell.
