Default More on Oil Filters - Civic

Hey Folks,

New to the forum and new to Hondas. My daughter just purchased a 2001 Civic with the 1.7 L (D17A) motor; she loves it....I maintain it!

What are my options for an aftermarket replacement for the OEM filter? After reeviewing this forum and searching for "oil filter", it's apparent the PLM filter is not the best to use. Will the PCX fit this motor? What filters (available from local O'rielly's or AutoZones) are recommended?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the advice folks. I'll see what the OEM looks like after a 5,000 treck. Since Autozone is close by, I'll check out Purolator filters. I use Mobil1 and Mobil 1 in my Tundra but I'll see if the daughter wants to spring for the cost of the filters ($10.00)!!!!

Thanks again...I assume the PCX filter will not fit the Civic?

If you are thinking of going aftermarket, check out the following link on a oil filter study: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html

I know it is 3 years old but I believe the info is very much accurate.

Purlator is a good brand and highly recommended by many people. I use that and Mobil 1 filters.

the new OEM Honda filters are supposely made by FRAM.

Purolater makes good filters as well as Mobil One

You can also spend less and get a good quality filter at WalMart (SuperTECH Filters) that are made by Champion Labs who makes Mobil One filters.
