New clutch-still noise???
I replaced my clutch because I THOUGHT the throw out bearing was making the marbles in the tranny area noise. I could eliminate the noise by pressing in the clutch. My old TO did feel a tiny bit rough and the new clutch feels great (stock Exedy), but when I turn after a stop sign or accelerate I get this noise that sounds like something is loose somewhere. It's obviously a spinning part that only does it sometimes and not when I'm out of the car trying to pinpoint it.
Just replaced:
timing belt
water pump
clutch
distributor
valve train tight
Any friggin ideas??
Now I'll probably have to hold up another tranny and see if the noise is IN the tranny????

a lot of people have the same problem when changing to a new clutch and T.O. bearing. I've heard that it is most likely one of the bearings inside the tranny like an input shaft bearing or something. I have the same problem after changing out my clutch/flywheel TO bearing etc. I havent fixed it yet though cuz i have no $$ but i hear that you dont want to drive on it too much cuz if the bearing blows it can do more damage to the tranny.
yea i had a noise similer to that, and the tranny blew up on me a short while later. One of the bearings had exlploded, turned all the balls into little hexagons and did a number on the main shaft. Id look into a new tranny. what year car is it? If its a cable tranny then i might just have one for you
sorry comp went crazy like i was saying same thing happened to me my clutch was wasted and i waited awhile like a week or more and i changed it but it was too late it still made noise i thought something else was lose thinking it might be the pressure plate but it wasnt after all of that it was that my tranny was hitting and it was killing me changed and guess what my SHIT pulled SOoOO nice afterwards change that tranny that might be the problem
Since I'm still pissed about having to do this again, did anything outside the tranny get damaged when it let loose? I have another one attached to another motor, I just don't feel like changing it out. I'll drive this until it lets go, if I can, then swap on the other tranny. This will make my third tranny- do these motors ever stop?!?!
I know the damn thing is gonna blow when it's 40 below in my gagrage!
Thanks for the info

its probably the input shaft bearing and/or the bearing on top of the main shaft
I dont know why people tell others that its the damn pilot bearing...if you press the clutch in and the sound goes away, pressure is on the pilot so it would make the sound then, and not when the clutch is not pressed.
I really really suggest you change the input shaft bearing, counter shaft bearing, as well as the bearing on top of the main shaft, if youre going to do this at all...maybe even the bearings on the diff. Sure would suck to change one and it not be the one that was bad in the first place...

I looked at an exploded view of the tranny and all the bearings that could make the noise. It's just cheaper for me to let it break, then swap on my other one. At least with this one the noise only happens on certain occasions. The last one I had on there would make the noise pretty much all the time, so I knew that one was going soon. The whole project wasn't a complete waste of time. the stock style Exedy clutch I got for it increased the pedal effort back to what it should have been, the Valeo (Autozone) pressure plate was just too soft, felt like there was no plate at all. Plus the throw out bearing was alittle notchy (which is what I thought it was). The pilot bearing is stock to the car and felt fine, so I left it alone. Scarey thought with 332,000 miles but "if it ain't broke", I usually will trying to replace it.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
