Default d series turbo

how much boost could a d series engine hold with just je pistons/rings, eagle rods, block guard? would any head work make a difference in the amount of boost the motor could handle? thx

Block guard isnt all that necessary/ reccommended... MY guess is MAYBE 15-18 PSI tuned, but DONT QUOTE ME!

block gaurd is fine. 15-18psi means nothing because we don't know what type of setup you have. I would say about 15 LBS. Tuned would be a good daily driving setup.

im thinking of starting a turbod y8 as a winter project.. im not looking for anything spectacular. id rather have it more reliable then fast.. id be happy in the 170-220whp range. i was thinking of going with a t3/t4 .50 trim turbo.

for those numbers you dont need pistons and rings, it wouldnt hurt, but you dont NEED it. Also a t3/t4 is gonna be on the large side of things for a SOHC, so your not gonna see spool till late in the game, and 15 pounds of boost on that is gonna put you at about 250-280. Your best bet is gonna be a t3 super 60. Its gonna give you a good spool for the motor and its gonna support more power down the road should you want it (and you will).

well i figured if i was going to need rods i might as well do pistons and rings.. the engine has almost 150k miles on it and i didnt want to boost it on stock internals.. ill do a compression check and see where im at.

yea that would be the best bet. Though you are taking the right path, it is definintly better to be safe then sorry. After rods and pistons you could run almost carefree with a good tune and make some really good power

yea i wasnt as concerned about making big power as i was having it not blow up on me.. what kind of power could i expect with the t3 super 60 turbo on 10 psi? how safe would that setup be and could i up the boost safely?

You could run that with absolutly no concerns after getting tuned. You could see about 220-230 to wheels with that set up. You could probably run 13-15 psi on that turbo and that setup safly and see almost 250 hp with out any worries
