Default EMISSION CHECK,please help?????

I have a 98 civic lx and 5 months ago i had a full exhaust system put in. DC Sport headers, aftermarket cat, and Greddy exhaust. Because of the position of the o2 sensors and the cat it has tripped my check engine light on. I reset my computer before i went to take emissions test so my check engine light would not be on and the test was aborted twice they said my computer had not checked it self internally and that needed to be completed before the emissions can be completed. Their computer said OBD11 readiness codes, the codes that were not completed were as follows. (Evap sensor,Catalyst sensor, and o2 sensor) can anyone tell me what i can do? Can i do emissions with my check engine light on? My codes that come up for my check engine light are fuel too lean and both of my o2's, will i fail? any info would be great

you can not have any codes stored into your computer( im an emissions tech at my mechanics place) you can not just shut them off....find out where they are really suppose to go fix the problem....dont try any stupid things to get around it...unlkess you can make your computer think you have fixed it.

I had this same problem with a nother make and model. The problem is that you must go through a specific OBDII Drive Cycle for the sensors to reset. Your CEL will be off but the sensors will be in "not ready" mode. Do a search for honda OBDII Drive cycle on google or something.

Or you can go to honda and get them to do it $$$$$$.

so how did you pass emissions? The service guy at honda said that after you reset the comp. it takes 2 driving trips, 10 mi. each for the internal comp. to be ready but he also said that my cel would be back on at that point. I'm going to try to just clear the codes, instead of a reset. Do you know of a way to trick the cars computer to make it think that it is fixed? Anything would help

when i was having issues with my O2, the CEL would click on after a mile at the most.

Honda was one of the biggest offenders in the OBDI government crackdown. They are part of the reason for OBDII. Honda was notorious for having emissions problems but not turning on the CEL. OBDII is very tricky. You will have to make several trips some on the highway and some in the city.

Some tips:
1. Never floor it right after the reset
2. No jackrabbit starts
4. Don't go above 60
5. Coast to a stop without pressing the brakes from about 35 mph and again from 55 - 60.
6. don't use premium unless your car requires it - premium burns SLOWER than regular - more NOX emissions if your car is running borderling.
7. use a heavier weight of oil and change your oil if you have a sniffer test. Don't worry about this if you just have the computer test.

hope this helps.
