I use AEM brake pads, I've had them for almost a year, and they work great. You'll get way better braking than stock, and they don't give much brake dust. It's a good brake upgrade. Add some Brembo Cross Drilled and Slotted rotors, and you'd be ready for autoX

No you don't want to run Drilled/Slotted rotors for autocross. Your stopping distances will be worse and if your car is stock you would be bumped into a much harder class.

I think it is because there is less surface area on the rotor.

DO NOT GET CHEAPO ROTORS!!!! They are cheap for a reason, and will make all kinds of noise

All a brake rotor is is a HUGE heat sink. When you mash the brake pedal the brake pads clamp on the rotor causing friction. This friction goes from kinetic energy (if I remember right) to thermal energy.

When you drill out or slot a rotor you are effectively taking out material from the rotor so cannot hold as much heat as a solid blank rotor.

I used to have drilled rotors when I 1st started autocrossing cause I didn't know better. I had PowerStop rotors (drilled and slotted) with Axxis Metal Master pads. Braking wasn't great but ok. Then I learned from guys here and on other forums and went to a Brembo Blank rotor and AEM pads and the braking was on the side of incredible. I could never get my car to slow down quick enough with the 1st setup. Second setup just pulled my teeth out.

Also with drilled rotors (ones that are not CAST with the holes) you can actually get cracking of your rotors - which is BAD!

Well we're not talking about that, are we?

And what do you consider "cheapo" rotors? Instead of just posting crap, why don't you explain a little more.

Most rotors that you buy at Pep Boys and Autozone are fine for everyday driving and even track days. What makes noise is preparation of the pad when you install them. Making sure the backing plates are there, you put a little brake pad lube on the backs of the pads.

All rotors are basically made from the same material unless you have a Porsche or Ferrari.

The pads I have are fine and properly installed. When I say cheapo rotors, I mean cheapo rotors. My rear were $9 a piece. I did not get the cheapest fronts and have had no problems with them. They are "basicly"the same, but the material is of a lesser quality
