Default Can anyone tell me why my steering wheel shakes??

Alright, I just bought this civic coupe. During the test drive, the steering wheel shakes especially when I brake. Now, I just finished replacing the rotors and the steering wheel doesn't shake anymore when I brake, but after I hit about 50 mph it shakes. I've noticed that my alignment is off a little bit, but could barely tell. Both of my front tires are also somewhat worn on the outside ridges. So, has anyone delt with a situation like this one before???

You need to get your wheels balanced and an alignment done. about 150-200$ at a decent alignment shop. Good luck.

It could be a couple of things:

Bent wheel
Unbalanced wheel
Cupped tires
Flat spotted tires
Wrong pressures
Bad axle

Do all the inexpensive fixes first and see how it goes. Hopefully you won't have to put too much money into it.

a blown bushing somewhere on your control arms could cause it too

Lemme guess at what happened.

You tires somehow got off balance. This in turn caused cupping (uneven tire wear) to tire which in turn contributed to uneven braking which eventually lead to warped rotors (or uneve pad deposits). In a downward spiral, the shaking continued to get worse, thereby worsening all of these things.

You fixed one broken part, the rotors. Now you need to address all the other stuff.

A more rare possibility is the worn/blown bushing as mentioned above.

Like mentioned above also: check even air pressure, check bent rim.

Make sure a seiko watch isn't lost inside the tire.
