I think you guys need to take a look at asiandoood's thread in the DIY forum. He spray painted his spoiler with cans, and it looks professional.

gas will eat any finish. yeah, maybe if he used like 5 cans of clear. it is much easier to do it the right way the first time and get perfect results

Go here delsol. I think burner did an awesome job on those skirts. Im considering matching mine to my car now. Burner, did you sand the plastic before you primed it, or did the primer just go right on?

here is the DIY.:

you need to sand them first, otherwise the paint will juss fall off. use a flexible primer as well if you can find one.

and i checked that other one, it's far from proffesional. look at the last pic, you can see a tremendous amount of orange peel in that paint. the fact of the matter is, you get what you pay for. do it yourself is exactly wat it is. it'll look great from a distance, but is is not professional quality. trust me, you'd be better off @ least using real, automotive clear coat and sand/buffing that. it's the only way to get that correct smoothness with less work.

what part? the bumper? it appears as though it has nearly no shine whatsoever. either way, i know the painting process and results like the back of my hand. the easiest and most correct way to do it is with automotive products. the best results will come with those products, thats that.

Thanks for the compliment. Yes I did sand down the plastic first. By the way, there is a tremendous amount of orange peel in that pic, but did you see his followup thread on how to get the orange peel out. Now none of you can lie and say asiandoood didn't do one hell of a job. I didn't, but I don't have any experience with painting. And yeah, I'm pretty sure that you get the best results from automotive paint, but then I would need a spray gun, compressor, and automotive paint which I'm sure is a hell of alot more expensive than spray cans. I'm happy with the results, just want a little more shine.

make sure those plastic/rubber door gaurds are extremely clean before you paint them. since they are rubber, paint doesn't like to stick to them. find an adheshion promoter if you can.

yes, he did a wonderful job, but i've juss grown up with doing paint in particular the right way. look @ my car sometime... i have to totaly repaint it because somebody half-assed it before i bought it. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/823606/1

I feel your pain. Do you go to an automotive school? You mentioned something about the school bodyshop.
