Default Redline question

My redline is 8200. I was racing tonight, and I am really novice at race shifting. Well in first I redlined over 8200 and my car started to slow to i quickly shifted to 2nd, and pull on the car and won i guess you could is. Is my car screwed up b/c of this, or would I have to let it redline above 8200 for the 30 secs for it to blow? I just need to be reassured, b./c the car ran fine on the way home, i just wanna know that i didnt do no engine damage to valves, pistonsa, anything of that sort. thanks

More than likely you have a rev limiter which won't let you rev above 8200 rpms. You'll be ok.

It's ok. The stock RPM gauge has been known to be off by a few hundred RPM.

that and the rev. limiter is a couple hundred more than the redline. i would think one of your biggest concerns would be valve float if you held a high rev on a stock valvetrain for an extended period of time. just get an aftermarket tach and shift light. its safer also so you won't be looking at the tach instead of the road when you're hitting vtec in third gear .

imo, if your car is factory tuned, it probably shouldn't be shifted at the redline. most (stock) honda powerbands that i've seen level off and don't make power after a certain rpm, which is usually 300-500 rpm before redline, so you'd be better off shifting to the next higher gear anyway.

good luck on your next race

redlining to 8200 serves no purporse, its a mathamatical formula from peak output to dangerous output, you shouldn't shift over 7000 there is no reason except you sound like half an indy car.

as far as banging the rpms, ive so many times just floored my car in N just to listen, all you do is smash the rockers, and have to readjust, unless you dont change you oil for a long time and REALLY beleive in this over 5000 mile oil bogus.

Well, since peak HP is made at redline and peak torque is made at 6500 rpm, wouldn't it make sense to shift at redline and then fall back in the next gear right at 6500 rpm?

If it were dangerous to rev that high, why would Honda create the rev limit so high?

alot of engines dont have peak horsepower at redline. its usually a little before. for instance on my motorcycle, it redlines at 14,200, but peak horsepower is around 12,500.
