Default Stereo thieves, Honda locks, Broken windows, etc

Well, I haven't posted here in quite a while, but have been busy and not had much to say. But, now I have a story to tell, so here it goes.

Last Friday night someone broke into my 94 Ex coupe and took all of my stereo equipment that I had. They smashed my driver's side window and then just went in from there I suppose. Stuff stolen was: Pioneer 7500 CD player, Kicker L7 sub, Legacy amp, as well as my capacitor, wiring blocks, crossover, all my cd's, and even my tool kit that I had in there.

As many of you guys might know, there is a trunk release on the floor by the driver's seat that locks so that you cannot open the trunk from the inside of the car. Being the safe person that I am, I of course had that locked. However, whoever broke in actually drilled/hacked out the core of that lock and simply popped my trunk anyway. I guess that my trunk wasn't as safe as I had thought it was.

So now I am left without any music or music equipment. I'll probably just throw in my stock Honda tape deck so I at least have a radio. My problem now is basically just getting a window in. Most of my quotes have been about $170-200 for the glass and installation. Does this seem like a reasonable price to you guys, or should I maybe try to buy a used window and put it in myself? Please give me some suggestions.

It is such a shame that a few people in this world can ruin what many of us work so hard for and take the satisfaction out of this hobby that we enjoy.....

Install a flashing red LED with a grommet from Radio Shack. They also sell the alarm warning stickers for the windows. Good simple deterent. Wire it to the clock so that it's off while driving.

170 to 200 dollars for the glass and installation is rediculous! You can probably find the glass at a junkyard or even on here for about 50 dollars and put it in yourself, there should only be two screws holding in the window. All you have to do is take off the inside door panel and roll down the window until it lines up with some holes that are on the frame of the door that you can use to stick a screw driver into and unscrew the old take out the window and screw in the new.

Thanks for the suggestions and sympathy guys My glass isn't covered because I just have liability insurance. I will look at some junkyards and see what I can find. Honda dealer quoted me at around $130 for the window, so it appears that installation charges are about $40-50 or so.

I will eventually get an alarm later on. As of now, I really don't have anything in my car left to steal h:

Hopefully as time passes I will find this stuff once again more enjoyable. Until then, Honda should make their locks better
