loosen the dizzy up & just by turning it while the vehicle is running you will be able to hear the difference!
Counter Clockwise should retard the timing if i'm thinking correctly today!.. u'll hear the difference tho.. just get it to be as smooth as you you can by hear for now & then i'd have it properly done by a tuner if you have that avaliability. Best of luck to ya.

If you are standing infront of your car, turn the top of the distributor away from you.
If looking at the side of it (standing on the passenger side) you would turn it counter clockwise to advance.
Remember though if you advance the timing we are not liable for any damage caused by it. You should also use higher octane gas - 91-93 octane.
