if you turbo an engine with high comp pistons are you more likely to bust internals, and what are other risks? I know they make low comp. pistons specifically for turbo'd cars, but that seems counter productive.

it depends more on the gas you are running and the kind of tuning you are using.

Drag cars use 14.0+ compression with 20+ psi, but they are running full race gas and such

In the end it is the best to keep as high a compression as possible on a turobcharged car, while keeping it from detonating, for the most HP.

IT IS counter-productive, but more of a safety thing

He specifically said that he wasn't allowed to boost it.

Lower compression pistons allow more boost to be run without the chances of detonation due to shitty tuning. It allows more of a buffer, if you will.

ok, think about it this way... a complete rebuild of your current motor would probably yield something in the 10-25 whp range if you do it right and get it tuned well. Total investment, 1k-3k, depending on build, parts and whether you DIY. My swap cost me $1200 total, and it would still probably blow that d16y8 out of the water even after a buildup. In terms of bang/$, you're not going to get much out of that motor in n/a form.

Pretty much any modification reduces the average resale value of a car. To think just because you stuck with the original engine (but completely tore it apart and rebuilt it) is gonna net you more cash on resale than a simple OEM equipment swap doesn't make any sense.

So would it be safe to use standard high comp pistons (I have yet to see any for my 2004 civic) with about 8-10 psi be safe?

Not you fool. Read.

Also, if you have your own questions, you should start your own thread.
