ok, think about it this way... a complete rebuild of your current motor would probably yield something in the 10-25 whp range if you do it right and get it tuned well. Total investment, 1k-3k, depending on build, parts and whether you DIY. My swap cost me $1200 total, and it would still probably blow that d16y8 out of the water even after a buildup. In terms of bang/$, you're not going to get much out of that motor in n/a form.

Pretty much any modification reduces the average resale value of a car. To think just because you stuck with the original engine (but completely tore it apart and rebuilt it) is gonna net you more cash on resale than a simple OEM equipment swap doesn't make any sense.
