Default idler pulley

ok here is my situation, on my 00' si the bolt that supports my idler pulley broke in half so basicly i can't replace it until the broken bolt is removed from the hole. Is the car still driveable with out this pulley and if so can i just get a tighter belt to run the a/c because i believe thats what the idler pulley is for (correct me if im wrong). Oh and can this be fixed by an ameture or should i take this problem to a professional.

IF you must drive it, remove the A/C belt for now. Take it to a shop and have them extract the bolt and put a new belt on. I wouldn't put a tighter belt on because it will put much more stress on the bearings.
