Default axle replacemnt HELP

I replaced the axles on both sides...the passanger side is right up against the tranny...but the driver side one has like an 1/8 inch gap between the tranny and the axle.......i tried but it wont go any further.. is it suppossed to sit like that, or do i need to find away to push it all the way in..I hammered it and the thing wont move anymore.....

97 civic dx..i figured it out i think..the gap is from a rubber seal that the axle sits against between it and the tranny....
