Nihon, is on the cutting edge of "green" and emissons they only make 5.4% of the worlds emissions as a car manufacturing country as compared to the U.S. which makes 24%. the U.S. failed to participate in the Kyoto Green talks 2 years ago, reasons uncertain, ask George, maybe its because even the smallest USDM car barely competes with the largest displacement JDM car with emissions levels. too embarrassing for the US to even attend...
Im confused what you are trying to say.

My apologies, I made too rash a statement. Actually, yes, the US is a worse offender in emissions as a country.

However, I live in California and for individual vehicles, I think Cali has the most stringent emissions requirements for individual vehicles. JDM vehicles don't pass emissions testing here. (And we also have crappy low octane gas.)

Let me say instead, I'm not Nihon because I need a left hand drive car.

I lived in California, and I now live in Japan, I believe the only reason why JDM vehicles dont pass in Cali is because of the High import tax tarriffs that Japan imposes on USDM vehicles (which are all shipped from California bec. it is closest to the Pacific ocean) And this is the way they get back at Japan.
Japan Hi Octane gas is 93 octane, and there are emmisions laws here like you wouldnt believe...Emissions tests in California are all done by computer in which the operator must punch into the make and year of the vehicle...The BEAR emissions system then relays this information via, internet to some central location which is predetermined the "central" authority. (That sets variables of what is acceptable or not...) Can You honestly say that a 4.7 liter SUV in California is more environmentally friendly than a 1.6 liter JDM Honda?

 Their reliability is no better than a DSM. At least when it comes to AWD cars on both ends.

If you're looking for a fun project, get a 91 AWD Turbo Talon/Eclipse/Laser. The whole car is cheaper than most Honda turbo kits.

Now, there's my biased post.

LMAO ahahahaha, turbo is the way to go! but correct me if im wrong, you'd need replace ments on some drive train parts like the clutch for example, can the stock one really take the hp boost?

Yeah champ, go all motor, forget the Miata. Now if you really want a Mazda instead of turbo for Civic get a RX7. That's a real mans Mazda, already turbo 88 up. But I agree with cuzz, get you a AWD 90 94 Eclipse/Talon. Had a 90 GSX AWD. Loved it , turbo went out. 14.9 all day. Own a 91 EF Hatch w/ B16. You'll get much respect when you win. It's your decision, but that's what I would do.
