96 civic lower engine mount-help!
I just replaced my timing belt and water pump and went to put the lower engine mount back on on my 96 civic ex with the 1.6 liter engine and can't find the nuts that the mount bolts go into. I could see them when I went to put the bolts on but now they are gone like they slid away. Is there an access area to get to these nuts at? I can't seem to find one! I just bought the car a couple months ago and the last owner put new belts on (except for the timing belt) and the lower engine mount was replaced.
huh? the lower mount... like the one that goes through the AC belt?
If so, the nuts are welded to the inside of the frame on mine. Just 2 bolts hold it in place on my '92. Maybe a pic would help?

I don't get it either about where these nuts went to either. No pics, don't have a digital camera but it is the mount that the ac belt has to go around. I just changed the timing belt on my 2000 honda accord ex with the 2.4 and did not have this same problems. Does anyone know of any access area to get to the engine mount bolts though?
...so if you shine a light up through those holes, you don't see any threads? Double... no... tripple check that. It's possible that when that mount was replaced, that they didn't replace them with the right fasteners... so the ones you have may be too small. The nuts on mine are welded inside an area where you have no access... so I'd imagine there's no way any other mechanic could have removed them, and it's too young of a car for them to be rusted out.
Reflecting on how my lower mount is connected while I was swapping my motor, I can't imagine any way for this to be possible. I'm trying.

It's welded inside the frame.

Can you use some magnet to move the nut inside the frame?
Long time ago I thought that I don't have nuts for an upper mount.
I talked to collision shop people about how to get inside and they told me
that the only way to get there is to cut a square hole on outer side of a frame, get a things done, and weld a square piece back in place.
In my case I didn't had to do that.

if the nut moves inside the frame in any way, there is no way it's not going to spin when you try to tighten it.
If you have the right bolt and the welded nut is gone from inside the frame rail you have to take it to a mechanic and have them open a spot in the frame rail and reweld it in place for you then close up the frame rail again.
