Whoa!. Acetone is a VERY powerful solvent and might actually melt part of your lense. Eastwood makes a nice polishing system for this application that cleans up haze very nicely. I wouldn't sand them either but I might try a plastic cleaner and wax as suggested.

try toothpaste, crest the white paste, not the gel, if not meguiars makes some headlight polish that comes in a packet for about a dollar. they work great. they are intended for plastic pieces that face the elements, the also have some kind of coating that repells water so they are ideal for use on marine equipment or in our case headlights. make sure the haze is outside and not inside, but the packet can be picked up at autozone or wherever in the headlight section

Ok, dont use acetone, the reason people use acetone is to remove all of the grease and grime that is on the lense, and then you know you are not waxing somthing dirty.

If you want to clean it, use alcohol and that will clean them up so you can do whatever you need to them.
