I agree that VISUALLY, they look very similar and can almost hardly tell the difference. But I can garuntee that the materials used and creation process is different. Rota's wheels are CAST, most of the higher end wheels are FORGED. Big BIG difference.

big difference i agree.
but there are wheels that are semi forged being passed off as forged wheels. Regamaster/Spoon SW388's are not fully forged. Work Emotion CR/KAI are cast. Advan RG's, Buddy Club SF, Wedsport, and older Mugen wheels such as the RNR's, M7's, RG's are all cast. but they all charge an arm and a leg for it.
all in all..its all up to preference. whether you have a cast Mugen wheel vs. a cast Rota wheel...they are all going to bend and crack upon impact.
My Work RSB multipiece wheels are bent... Inspyral's old Advan RG's cracked and bent, my friend's Stern Beast Face 2's bent multiple times. We are all tired of getting our "nice" wheels fixed sometimes.

look at the rota copies and look at the original's. you'll see why the originals are so much more expensive. the looks can't be copied cheaply, and the real ones look the price.

but they both do the same thing. :dunno:
the extra 200 per wheel i can spend on something more "go" than something that "looks" better or give you a "higher status" symbol.

BUT NOT THE 15'S.

If you look closer, the 15's and the 16's Rota Slipstreams have a different lip pattern.
The SW388/Regamaster EVO have a distinguished cleaner lip and slightly bigger spokes.

A cast wheel is basically like pouring liquid into a mold and drying. Cheaper to make, but then they are not as durable.
I've seen many Rota's being bent bad and crack, but then since they are so inexpensive, it's not too bad of a trade-off. (IMO)
Edit:
I suggest checking out this guide, well written:
