Default "dimple drilling"?

has anyone heard of this?

this is the quote i got from the guy i purchased my brembo rotors from after i asked if the holes were supposed to be drilled all the way thru..they were drilled and slotted by an aftermarket company.

"The new way of drilling is called DIMPLE drilling. It helps keep the shape of the rotors. Alot of people say that drilling all the way through weakens the rotors so doing it this way keep more metal on the rotor and works the same. Please leave me feedback, thanks!

Less surface area equals less braking surface. You need surface area to brake. Dimples are just a sales gimmick like cross drilled rotors are nowadays.

um I'm not sure your ever supposed to tamper with the surface at all. I would've bought em cross drilled or slotted in the first place.

what happens when you lock em up and they explode cause some dikweed "dimpled" them wrong?

WTF? "Dimple Drilling"... doesn't that just defeat the purpose of CROSS DRILLED rotors? That's bullsh*t . That's why I'd rather get Brembo parts direct from a real Brembo distributor.

On the other hand, more surface area = faster cooling. In this case the pads have less of a surface to grab, but the rotor has more surface area to expel heat. "Dimple Drilling" will not decrease the strength of the rotor itself as much as cross drilling will. For a daily driver regular rotors should suffice. It's really up to you to decide if they are going to be functional for you. Europes best cars come with slot drilled rotors stock.

i'll just test them out for a couple of months and see what the difference is....if it's noticeable.

Yes, but slots are designed to expel hot gas whereas dimples are not.
