Is an engine really that heavy?

But motor grease and dirt are two completely different things.
It's not that heavy. We pulled my CX engine without a hoist (just didnt have it). I'd recommend using one to lower the engine in, we used one to put my B18C1 in place, but 2 people in good shape can probably lift and move an engine. We carried the CX engine into my basement with just 2. It will most likely fit in the back of a Subaru but just be careful you don't leave the weight on the oil pan and pad it with something so if it moves it won't destroy sensors (specifically the throttle position sensor on the back of the TB).

i basically put 2 straps around the upper motor mounts and carried it away like it was a back pack. i did this with the whole front end off, like the fenders, hood, and everything that was in the front, just the engine was there.
edit: i DO NOT recommend doing that unless you have a really strong back.
