Default wheel shaking ater brake job

i tooky my car to NTB and they machined my rotors for me, which made my wheel stop shaking and brakes stop sqeeling but then i found another problem. As i drove from there to school on the highway, i noticed my wheel shake semi-violently at 60-65 mph or more. I took it back and they couldn't fix it....althought they found i had a bent rim in the front, so they said that was it and moved it to the back. It made no difference. Feels the same.

So, I took the car to another guy, somebody my dad knew at a gas station and he said 3 of the tires were un-balanced. Since then, it's still around, but now it comes and goes. Go figure.

Niether NTB or this gas station can figure it out now...what do you guys think it is? I just installed some KYB Shocks myself about a week before I started feeling the vibration in the wheel. I'm thinkin of getting my suspension checked...but I doubt that's what it is.

Has anyone had this problem before after they lowered their car? Mine has been lowered for 2 months, all i did was switch shocks a few weeks back.

Thanks

Possibilities:
1) A wheel balance got knocked off and never was balanced correctly again (look to make sure you have only ONE weight per side of the wheel, two or more, means someone didn't align properly, if you have the normal stock rims; "koing" style rims will feature tape weights and it is okay to have more than one of those stuck on)
2) Indeed a bent rim is not easily taken care of to move to the back, it will still vibrate
3) Alignment may be out (yes certain aspects of an alignment can cause wheel shimmy)

I guess the question I need to ask is what kind of vibration do you feel? Is the steering wheel feeling like it is moving back and forth, do you feel like the ass end vibrating back and forth, is the ride bouncy (may indicate a blown shock)?

Look around your suspension parts as you said you where going to do and make sure there isn't like a filmy oily residue on your shocks, if there is you might have a blown shock on that side, but look at securely attached nuts and such, especailly near the ball joints.

i have kazera rims from tirerack.com and they are all supposedly aligned and balanced....go figure. I need to get the bent rim fixed (which is now located in the rear on the left) so after that i want to see what happens

but the vibration is not the car itself, its just the steering wheel....the steering response is excellent but the wheel moves side to side. The ride isn't bouncy...it's stiff as shit due to Eibach Pro Kit springs and KYB AGX Adjustable Shocks.

plus, it comes and goes...never consistent. Any ideas?

Most people that work on tires and alignments would still guess imbalanced tires, especially noticeable at higher speeds. Really all I can give you on the internet is stuff I would generally look for if someone came in with a condition like yours.

anybody else have any ideas what my wheel shimmy would be caused by?

[thanks to mohamed_ibrah for giving me ideas]

The best thing you could do is to get the bent rim fixed (while you're at it, check to see if any other wheel needs to be repaired), then take all of your wheels and have them rebalanced at a different shop. This shaking might be also bad for your suspension (like alignment), so if you could get a hold of a set of different wheels (that are balanced of course) and see if you could duplicate the same situation. If you don't experience the shaking with a different set of wheels, then it's your wheels that need to be rebalanced. Might want to look into getting hubcentric rings to see if that'll help alleviate the problem.

I would also check your suspension bushing and linkages to make sure nothing is cracked, bent, or excessively worn.

if hubcentric rings are what i think they are, then i have them (the rubber center piece on the inside of the wheel so it fits on the hub...that thing that comes with after-market wheels.....if thats what your talking about, then i have them.

another weird thing...NTB, after they found i had a bent rim, told me my wheels were aligned and balanced...but a gas station later said the alignment was fine but 3 of the wheels were out of balance.

I'm thinking my next step should be to fix the rim and re-align and re-balance everything and then see how it is. However, if im still having a problem...what would my other options be?

Sweet. I guess that's one thing you could cross of your list as one of the factors on what's wrong with the shaking.

Let us know once you get the wheel fixed and have everything rebalanced...
