Default headlight

my friend's headlight bulb burned out, and got so hot it melted onto the connector. dealership wanted a buttload (90) just to take a look at it. so, i was thinking maybe we could cut the line, go junkyard and get a new one, and splice em...would that work?...sry if i don't know much about electrical systems...anybody got any other ideas?

yeah...that would work. You could go to a junkyard and pick one up or go to discount auto or something and grab one there. That had happened to my last car. I stuck in one of those blue colored lights that are higher watts then normal and it burnt out after a few months and when I went to go change it it had melted to it as well. I went to discount and picked up a replacement, cut my old harness off, connected the new one and worked fine. So yeah. It will work.

Yup, that's how it happens. The stock wiring is setup for 55W bulbs (H4). People throw 85W bulbs on there and they weld themselves to the harnesses. You can easily cut the clip off and soulder a new one on. I highly recommend chaning the bulbs back to a 55W too.

Well its best to solder the wires because you get a better connection but I didn't when I changed mine. I just spliced the wires and put the two together with a splice connector (picture below). Wrapped it will shrink wrap tape to make sure no moisture gets in and what not and it was set. Its not too hard to do. Just make sure you rememebr which wire goes where. Good luck!

If you do plan on continuing to run higher wattage bulbs, you can get high wattage harnesses that are designed to handle it. Check this site out...they sell them:
