If you swap an engine, you won't get huge gains now (maybe about 20 hp or so if you put in a B18C1) but you will have a better foundation for a turbo setup later. Granted that you will still need to internal work on a GS-R engine if you want to run high boost. H22 is also a good engine, the only downside being that it is heavier and shifts your CG forward, and I believe it's a pretty tight fit.

As for reliability...kinda depends on you. There was one thread a while back about an H22 that tore out the engine mounts on someone's car because they used cheap knockoff mounts, but there are swaps that have lasted a while. Same with turbos or B-series swaps.
he doesn't have a b16. he said its an ex in the us=d16y8

Oops. Kinda skimmed over the "ex in US" part.

I'd say do an engine swap first and enjoy that and then do the turbo setup. IMO you will have a better starting base with a B series motor than the D series. Also a swapped motor will be a little bit more reliable than a turbo kit

Turbo. For the cost of a swap you can be faster then a swapped Civic.

You'll be faster than a swapped civic......but what if down the road he wants to turbo his B series engine........IMO the B series has a bit more potential than the D series I guess I'd just rather start off with a better base.

but for 2 grand you can get a brand new Greddy Kit and an Intercooler and be quite a bit quicker than a swapped car. Just doesn't make sense, plus I see all these b swapped people always saying well when I get my kit, the problem is I can say well when I get my S2000, it doesn't mean it's ever gonna happen. Meanwhile I have my turbo on my SOHC and I will beat your swapped bolton civic all day long.

It happens. I decided to swap before I went turbo because Its what I wanted to do. Not because I wanted to be/beat a swapped car. If all youre looking to do is build your civic so you can beat X car then my advice is get out. Youre building for the wrong reasons unless you are competing.
