Default 95 2dr. civic ex question

The black part of (I guess you could call it trim.) is starting to deteriorate, and show the metal underneath it. I tried to sand it so that I could paint it black again: however it doesn't look likes it's going to work, I might not be trying hard enough. It is the piece that is located at the base of both the driver side and passenger side windows. Like I said, it is a metal piece, but it looks like it is supposed to have some type of caoting on it. That coating is coming of, (due to weather I think.) Does anyone have any ideas, or had this problem themselves, that might be able to help me with ideas. Pictures would be great.

Have call Honda to see if you can replace it?

I notice that too on most Civic, but I have been putting Armorall on it after every car wash, and it been pretty new still.

Default Thanks, but.......

Thank you for the suggestion, but I am trying to fix it myself. I am trying to stay away from paying a lot of money for a part from a dealership. (I don't even know what the part is called, or the part #), but I guess I could drive to the dealership, and have them take a look at it. If anyone else has suggestions, please let me know.

if it's the piece beneath the door window, you can repaint it, but it won't last long.

if you go to an auto parts store, you should be able to find the paint for bumpers and trim - it has some type of rubber coating to it. you can pull that trim piece off [gently], try to sand it down the best you can, primer it if you want and then repaint it.

I just replaced those parts when i had my car repainted, the two pieces cost me $70.00. They pop right in and right out. Why waste time painting them?
