i have a skunk2 on my 96 hatch now (use to have a ebay shifter on there but got the skunk2 for free so i switched it up),..anyways i have my ebay shifter on my 97 for about a year and a half old and well its lasted me this long,..i have abused it but i dont shift hard as fawk in every gear every single day,..hasnt broke on me yet,..but dont get me wrong,..there is numerous stories of ebay shifters breaking during hard shifting,..but im happy wiht my ebay shifter as well as my skunk2 shifter,..whatever you decide,..just make sure you get ES bushings for your shifter,..i have ES bushings on both cars and the difference is night and day

I've had an ebay style for a year and a half and its going strong... I don't consider myself a strong shifter (don't really need to shift strongly to get a good fast shift) so I went with an ebay one. I don't have any aftermarket bushings right now, but some Neuspeed bushings should be in the mail within a day or two.
