Default Side effects of a turbo D16Y8

I've come to the conclusion that the most cost effective way of increasing the power of my 97 EX without the headache of a swap is the turbo. More particularly, because I need carb legal for this everyday driver, I'm thinking the GReddy 6thgen kit. NOS isn't constant enough. I want a small turbo for quicker spin up and less turbo lag (and less psi for longevity and reliability, since I don't have access to professional tuning).

But what happens to everything else when you stick a kit like this on?

What happens to the low end and mid range? Does it bog down till you rev up?

With the intercooler in front of the radiator, are there heat issues to cooling the engine?

What does it do to gas mileage during normal driving? And partial throttle?

This is for an everyday driver. I don't care about drag, 1/4 mile, or racing.

If your planning on staying with a stock motor other than the turbo & your not interested in racing i would say go with a T3 & decent size trim. If you plan on racing it eventually get a T3/T4.

Everything else is fine when putting a kit like this on.

Low end should seem about the same.. & u'r mid range power is going to increase tremendously! You won't bog down.

Your radiator being blocked by the intercooler shouldn't cause any problems at all.. (remember this is a KIT .. it's designed to do what you want)

Technicly you should get a lil bit better gas milage under normal driving conditions because of the better air/fuel mixture & the atomization that will be taking place.

Good Luck & I hope you like your increase in power..

ps.. you really should run it down the 1/4 once before & after to see the difference!!

Im still trying to learn about turbos, but isnt a T3/T4 on a D16 too big for that engine? like it will make more top end power at about 6500rpm but until then it sucks. If he said he wanted quick spooling shouldnt he go with the Greddy 19T kit?

Only use the T3/T4 on that motor if he is eventually planning on racing it & is going to build up the motor because it definatly will not spool up quick enough & will not be very effeciant!

Sorry dude, the T3 turbo is too big for a stock D16Y8. The 15G or 19T kits are very nice and work well with your Y8. I recommend one of these turbos.

Ya, that's a good kit too chimchim. Comes with an Intake Manifold and FMIC. h:

lkailburn: the 15G and 19T kits are from Greddy. Ask SleeperCivicEX about them. He's awesome with Greddy stuff.

It's all relative there are some SMALL ASS T3 turbos, like a T3 straight .42. A .42/.48 isn't a bad choice for a D, however, they do not make any kits with them that I know of.

The edelbrock kit, is a damn decent kit. The greddy is simpler, and more time tested, I do not believe the BOV and FMIC on the greddy kit are CARB'ed though.

Side effects of a turbo D? Well I can't pry the bitches off my jock with a crowbar, does that count?
