Default Basic Maintenance on a 2000 Civic SE

I'm about to do some basic maintenance (oil, plugs, wires, etc) on a 2000 Honda Civic SE that I recently bought. This brought me to a few questions. Currently the car has around 70k miles on it. I have no clue of the maintenance history. The current oil looks clean (guess I can thank the dealer for one thing).

1) What is the preferred oil for the 1.6L I4 motor? I'm guessing Mobil 1 Synthetic would be a good choice?
2) How about oil filter? I try to stay away from fram and some of the other infamous brands.
3) Spark plugs?
4) Spark plug wires?
5) Front brake pads?
6) Coil? Is it even necessary to replace this? If I need to replace it, is it as simple as popping off the distributor, pulling out the old one and placing in the new one?

TIA.

2) How about oil filter? I try to stay away from fram and some of the other infamous brands. Just stick with OEM Honda filters.

3) Spark plugs? I used Bosch Plantium +4s and they increase mileage and smoothed out my idle. Now I use Denso Iridiums for racing.

4) Spark plug wires? really any wire will do.

5) Front brake pads? AEMs

As far as who changed the oil I would just change it to be safe. You never know what cheap junk they put in your car.

Do you mean Civic SI, not SE?

Mobil 1, castrol, amsoil are good brands of oil

I have only used the OEM honda filters. Mobil 1 filters are supposed to be good too.

For plugs and wires, I would stick with the NGK oem equipment.

I use AEM brake pads. They produce a lighter dust so they are not as noticeable on wheels. I like the way the feel.

I wouldn't replace your coil unless it goes out or you are putting in a MSD external coil.

Nope.. according to carfax this civic sedan is an SE model (SE/DX/LX/EX) .

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing I can get all those parts at a local honda dealership? There's an Autozone right down the street but if a dealership has the parts I'll head there.

most auto chains sell mobil one for 5 bucks a quart. . . but if you live near a costco they sell em in packs of 6 for 24 bucks which runs to about 4 bucks a quart. i'd say buy two cases cuz 6 quarts in honda land is just as good as 4 h:

It's basically an LX model with less options. The car says it was from Canada. I'm down in California. The engine is the 1.6L SOHC I4.

If I remember correctly, the Civic Special Edition comes with a D16Y7 engine, just like the Civic Value Package, CX, DX, and LX. Regardless of which engine it has, Honda has changed the recommended oil for 96-00 Civics (except Si) to 5W-20 instead of the previous 5W-30, although you can still use 5W-30 just as well. Apparently, they did this for fuel economy purposes. I personally like the 5W-30 though. Mobil-1 is the best stuff on earth, IMHO .

Should I buy straight from a Honda dealer or is there a site the members here normally prefer to buy from?
