i don't think i need a bypass valve, i put the wheel well back where it goes, it's not going to stay open like that, and I don't think that the air would be that much disrupted as it went over the little ridges, I mean it would go over those same ridges if i had it stock.

The valve is to get water out that is sucked up thru there. If you go thru a deep enough puddle, theoretically it could suck up the water. Spend the 40 bucks for the saftey measure. TX has lots of tornados and rain. Why risk the engine you can't afford to blow?

everyone says that the filter has to be completely submerged to get hydrolock. If i see a puddle i can dodge it, and if the streets are flooded i'll stay at home.

EDIT: North Texas has lots of tornados, down by Houston I have only seen one, we have lots of hurricanes, maybe not as many as you, and it does rain alot by Galveston and Houston.

If you just put your stock airbox where the rubber pipe is, you can acheive the same results with less ghetto-ification. And you wouldn't even need a bypass valve.
