i have a 5 in autometer tach mounted just in front of the ceter vents...i just fabricated a metal strip and bolted it to the dash....ive had it like that since feb and the plastic still hasnt gotten weak due to the weight of the tach....its also a lot easier to read than if it was on the pillar

Here's where I put mine. Call it what you will, but my CX didn't come with one stock and shift lights are wonderful. I just laid the tach in place, marked the front of the bracket with a pencil, pulled the cover, lined everything up and drilled the holes, attached the mounting frame with 2 short bolts and some washers and a nut on the inside to keep it secure then bolted the tach back inside. Held securely and worked great. I had to unbolt the tach from the mounting frame and just lay it across the dash when I got the car inspected because it blocked access to the sticker but that was the only issue I ever had.

BTW, here's an easy way to wire up the signal wire too. If you look on top of the drivers side harness plugs, there a small 1 wire plug that's usually taped to the top of the in-car harness. It's a diagnostic port for hooking a tach up inside the engine way to check idle and whatnot. I just cut the plug off and connected the tach's wire (I think green but check the paperwork) to that after running it through the firewall. I ran the other wires through the vent in the top of the dash and down to where the old lower console used to be. I had removed most of the interior from my car, so I just cut off the plug for the stock cigarete lighter (the acutally port was removed with the interior panel) and wired everything to that. I ran the light's power through a little $2 switch from radio shack so I could turn the tach's light on and off independant of the stock dash lights (at night the tach disappeared if the swtich wasn't on).
