Ahh..screeching!!
Alright well, i was driving to work and this asshole in a dodge ram was right on my ass..so i basically gunned it in 2nd to get away and my car felt like it wasnt moving as fast as it should..i thought that was pretty strange. Anyways, once i got to work i downshifted once entering the parking lot and a LOUD screeching noise occurs..wtf! So i put it in neutral and it happens again as my car begins too slow down to a stop. The alternator belt is tight..i dont have ac or ps..what could it be?? Could it be a bad crank pulley? How bout the timing belt? Or does it have something to do with my tranny? Help please..
Check your distributor. Only 3 13mm bolts pull it off, make sure the shaft moves freely with the distributor cap off. Mine did what you described when it went. Another indicator that it's going bad is that it's hot enough (after it starts squealing) to burn you. That's a bad sign.
If it seizes, it can break your cam. Worth a check.

Oh... your questions...
Can't be your crank pulley, because it's not dampened. It's a 1-piece pulley. And you don't want to go trying to take that thing off.
No, it's not your timing belt. That has teeth on it. It could be your timing belt tensioner pulley, but it's less likely than another engine accessory or bearing.
Your accessory tensioner pulley could be going bad. If your accessories are overtightened, then the belt puts a huge load on the accessory tensioner's bearing, and it will go bad faster. It's not good for your alternator, ac and power steering (if equipped) pumps, either.
Whatever it is, it's going to get hot. Feel around until you burn yourself. watch out for the exhaust crap. I'd start with the distributor (for risk of further damage), then the accessory tensioner pulley (most likely), then the accessories.

What happened to your old distributor?
Tranny isn't likely at all, if it were, it would be the clutch, and not the gearbox portion of it. see if it makes that noise both with the clutch pressed and depressed. If it makes the noise doing one, but not the other, it's your throwout bearing in the clutch. If the car makes this noise when it's sitting still, with the clutch pedal in either position, then it can't be any portion of your transmission.
Why do you suspect the tranny? Is it doing something weird, too?

the old distributor went out on me. i dont know man...i got act stage 3 clutch in there and i didnt resurface my flywheel when putting it in and it always made this annoying heat shield noise when i got up to 2600-2700 rpms. well when i got off of work and drove home the heat shield noise disapeared..strange huh? so it gives me this feeling its something with the tranny. but ill try what u said and keep you up to date..thanks
