Default Brakes!

Ok, I know little about brakes, but heres the deal:

In the last 500 miles my brakes have started squealing. Only when i first apply the brake, when i apply more power its gone.

Is this my low wear indicator? do I need new pads or are they just glazed? I got new pads and rotors last year, about 12-15k miles ago.

any insight?

wow, i didnt know pads wear out that fast. thats ridiculous. I'll probably change them myself. Is that possible without having to bleed the system?

check them first.. mine were doin that at 25k miles and still had half life left... they may just need a good cleaning with some brake cleaner... the entire assembly

How long have you had these pads?

If they were put in recently, you may just have some dust. If you haven't replaced rotors in a while, you should take a look into that as well. Changing pads is easy  You don't really need to bleed the brakes unless you aren't careful with the caliper.

you can change the breaks without having to bleed the system... just dont disconnect the brake line...

sounds good. Rotors were replaced at same time as pads.

raybestos and bendix are both quality, as well as powerstop (metallic pads only tho)

and the softer material pads can wear out quickly under heavy breaking as well as glaze, semimetallic pads do tend to squeak on some vehicles

and often pad wear is mostly attributed to the driver's braking habits

-----

i've gotten nearly 40k miles out of my ceramic pads (the softest of materials, along with organics) and i know a guy with a civic who has exactly the same pads as myself and he only got 9k out of his

so its all a matter of driving styles
