lol man either mine is nice and i don't know it or i got screwed. my 94 si with 77k on it had a sticker of $7,990 which was on sale for $6,990 which i talked down to $6,000 and i traded in my old car (kbb valued at 3,500 and only got 2k for  ) so after everything i had to pay $4,000. but the car is almost perfect on the inside and runs great. was that bad?
Hey guys,
It looks like the area really makes a price difference, not sure why…
I did however find two things:
1.Don’t buy from a dealer, it’s a hassle looking for a private one but it saves you big bucks….Those greedy guys will make at least 3 grand on your back.
2.Look at the listings of the car you are looking for in autotrader.com and cars.com. around where you live. In autotrader they give you the average price, if it’s substantially higher than what you’re looking at paying than I think your OK.
For future buyers…

my 95 vtec was $900 with 164k on the the OD...it was located in B-more too, guy i bought it from has 2 other sols also
my first sol was a 93 si, bought it for $500, but the previous owner parked it under a Dodge Ram, so i had fun with that one...

Welcome to the board
IMHO if I were you, I would only do mods to the engine that would carry over if you were to do a swap. Also IMO I would keep the Sol you just bought and do a swap, ect... I would not be confident of getting $4000 for it in 2-3 years. Instead, maintain the one you do have and build from there.

It definitely depends on area. I used autotrader.com when I found mine. It was at the DARCARS dealer in Rockville, the Nissan/Volvo one. They were absolutely *desperate* to be rid of the Sol - I was the only caller in like the 3 weeks they'd put it up for sale. It was taking up room in their lot they wanted to use for a 3.5SE Altima... at least, I think it was an Altima. Might have been a Maxima.
But yeah, after I expressed some initial hesitation, they immediately dropped the price, then dropped it some more. It was one of those rare rare cases where they would make a bigger profit just getting rid of one car and selling a better, new one.
All the private people I called were very shady. I tried really hard to find a VTEC, but it was impossible. The one I did find was down in Richmond VA, when I let Autotrader search within 100 miles or whatever the widest one was. The guy who answered the phone acted like he didn't even own the car, even though he was "authorized to sell it." He didn't know the mileage, either. "Somewhere around a 100 grand." VERY suspicious.
I talked to two different ladies in Hagerstown, also... one car was badly rusted and the other was above 200,000. Both of those were around June or July... I found my current car in August.

$10k??? That's crazy. The only Hondas over 3 years old worth $10,000 out here are Preludes, and MAYBE low-mileage Accords.
Well, I shouldn't generalize so much. But that is VERY high for a Del Sol out here.
