There once was a Yugo here locally that had a bottle fed built Chevy 350. It had cookie cutters up front, and the back was tubbed.

I'll start off this story saying I was very very stupid and when I get sleepy now, I just pull off the road a take a nap.

I was driving home after visiting my friend who lived 1.5 hours away at the time. It was a 3 lane freeway and I was in the far right lane. The freeway was straight for miles and I was dosing. I cought myself falling asleep a couple of times and didn't worry too much cause no one was in front of me and the road was so straight. Next thing I know I'm waking up half dazed and I see myself vearing towards the little white stick on the side of the freeway. I wasn't going to hit anything but I was just vearing off to the side. Instead of turning the wheel slightly, I apparently over corrected it and started doing donuts while sliding to the far left lane. The whole thing was blurry, but I could still picture the little I was able to make out at the time. I must have spun at least 10 times before sliding off the road into the left shoulder that was made of twigs and a bush that divided the north and south freeway. After freaking out thinking my car was totaled, I got out of my car to find out I didn't hit anything, but instead was 2 inches away from the bushes. I looked around to see if anything was damaged and there was nothing but a tiny tiny dent in my front bumper. I was so releaved to find no damage and was ready to leave before any cops saw me. I put the car in reverse and started to back up. My wheels were going buy I was stuck. I started to freak out again wondering how I was going to get home. Then I just decided to floor it on and off, rocking the car back and forth till it finaly started inching out of the ditch. I safely got on the freeway while wondering why nobody even stopped to see if I needed help :madfawk:. Then I stopped to check my oil to see if the pan may have been punctured. Turned out the plastic tray under the front kinda got ripped off, but not completely, when I was backing up.

Never sleep while driving. I am so glad that I didn't kill myself or anyone else. I didn't even damage my car.

Yikes!

Here's a little tip that has helped me...if you find yourself starting to doze off, turn the music up real loud, and start singing to it. Your singing will keep yourself awake. :a:

Sleep driving story: I have a really good friend who used to commute about an hour to see his girlfriend. She was the VERY demanding type and would insist he visit her after he got off work - he was in the military, and often got out at 2 am, 3 am, sometimes later.

One time after coming back from her place at 4:30 am, he woke up to find himself hitting tons of those orange construction barrels. They had closed off a lane to take its surface off and re-asphault it, and he hit about three dozen of those orange and white barrels before swerving back into a real lane. His car, a 1992 Celica GT, was totally undamaged. He said he could see in his rearview mirror that the barrels were littered all over the highway - yikes!

After that, he took up books-on-tape.
