Two words: Theft. Vandalism.

School = kids. Kids = jealous. Jealousy = ruins show cars, or nice cars in general.

Just ask the kid I knew with an E46 M3 who got it keyed nearly every day during the one week he brought it to a college campus supposedly filled with "mature" students. Ruined the paint on it. And he had no personal enemies, either - just random jealous strangers.

Couldn't have said that better myself...

My last Sol, the '95 Teal Si wasn't really anything special, but I still got plenty of dings all over, and a keystripe on each of the front fenders. My current Sol is still in the perfect condition it was in when I bought it aside from the keystripe going from the drivers door to the gasflap, which I received the one day I drove it to school!

i dont know where in the hell you live, but i live in the country, the only cars that would get stolen is if i had a truck with 35" swampers.

I also live in the country; you're crazy to think that a Honda won't be a target for rednecks. "Look thar at that mini-civic. It's just a' askin' to get warshed in some brake fluid..."

Besides, the point isn't about demographics of economics or region; it's about age. Young people envy people with nice cars, and do the little things they can to destroy said cars, whether by stealing or just hurting them. Don't say you weren't warned, but if you take it to school, prepare to have it keyed, egged, kicked, spit on, who knows what else. I've seen just about everything - from country-ass neighborhoods to really upscale ones. It's universal.

i take my sol to school every day, its not envy that gets my car hurt, its the morons who cant park or even see my car

but my school has a serious problem with theft. at least once a week a car gets lifted completly from my school. gone. some dont get found, some are just dumbass joyriders, one of my friends had his girlfriend's car stolen, and it got parted and it was a crap car too. the problem is my school has no parking on campus, and its in a city where the people dont like high schoolers parking in front of their homes and stuff, so there is nothing but "no parking school days school hours" signs all over untill you hit back streets that are yards from the school and down turns so they are not even visible at all. you just park and pray. and the cops are too busy speed trapping the kids and giving out parking tickets to bother catching real crooks. :jerkit: i actually had a friend get their car stolen, and the cops didnt find it, her dad found it ON THE ROAD. the guy was cruzing along on the highway a week after the theft in the car he stole, and no cop had ever even seemed to bother that it was the same discription and plates and all. her dad tailed him and he freaked and drove into some woods, totaled the car.

wow... long rant, eh?

cliff notes: i hate cops

It's all true. I'm ready to put an alarm on my car because of it, but I figure people will set it off just to piss me off. Seems a lot of smart people frequent this board, so I don't have a problem with any of you. I just don't like common people who just see a nice car and figure they need to destroy it. That's what happened to me. I parked my car on the side of the road and now my trunk has lifted paint from brake fluid. It just pisses me off.

Of course the cops are going to do a lot about a stolen car I had some guy almost make me wreck my old car with his eclipse slinging around the road trying to cut me off. If it's not kids it's kids in Mitsubishis, ya hear that Jafro?!

College Park (MD) had a bad Honda theft problem last year. Doesn't seem to have continued over to this year... but same issue. Cops refused to patrol the lots and instead opted to give out parking meter violations, until the VERY end of the year. The university cops were hopelessly outmanned, and Hondas and Acuras just got taken and taken and taken.

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

A note about the story on finding the stolen car ON THE ROAD, with the thief in it still: I had a friend who delivered pizzas for Papa Johns. He left his car idling and went inside for the next batch of pizzas. Ten minutes later, someone said "Hey man, isn't that your car driving off??" ... he went outside, and sure enough, some guy was leaving the lot with his car. He called all his friends, and someone spotted the guy traveling north at about 80-90 mph. They called the cops, and a state trooper started tailing him... the guy panicked, drove onto a backroad and wrapped the car around a utility pole at ~75 mph while braking. He exited the car without a scratch. Car = destroyed.

I'm getting a $500 alarm installed today. It's from an auto electronics tech and he's doing it for $250. Viper alarm.

EDIT: Installed! It is awesome! remote start and all! It has the hook up for trunk pop when I get a solenoid for it. I love this alarm. If you're considering it, get a nice DEI alarm. Viper, Clifford, Hornet, they're all the same, but Viper has the most features I believe. It is so much better having keyless entry.
