higher redline for gauge cluster due to new engine
Looks like i'll be having a new engine in my car in the next few weeks and wondering about my tach.
The tach on mine has a redline at 6800. The new engine has an 8200 redline so i intend to change my tach due to this. My question is this.
Would i need to change the entire cluster to have the higher reading tack and if so, which cluster could i get that would fit in a 97 civic EX?
I looked around and found some with the right redline but i'm not sure if they would fit in my car and would prefer not to get an aftermarket RPM gauge. Wanna try to keep it as clean as i can.
Engine btw will be a JDM B18C, should be rather fun having that in a stock looking, for the time being, civic. hehe :naughty:
Thanks for any info

Cool, thanks
I do look at the numbers, but on my current cluster the tach only goes up to 8000 so the numbers don't even go as high as the engine's redline.
Until i can find myself an SI cluster for cheap, will be reading the numbers. Although it should be funny to see any buddie's face when they see the tach needle hitting around 7000 at times before i shift
Btw, on those engines, what is a good street driving shiftpoint while still getting good power? I don't want to damage my brand new engine after all
Reason i ask this is because the last time i drove standard was almost 15 years ago and it was an old WW2 truck, i have a strong suspision that driving a standard civic will be somewhat different :driving:

hey My redline on my hatch (dx) is 8200...how you ask???....
well I'm glad you asked...see when I was in japan...long story...in a juck yard a gauge cluster is anywhere from 20bucks to 50(max)...and I got myself an sir2 gauge cluster with the redline of 8200...now the dx doesn't even have a tach but when I plugged it in it worked..imagine that BUT....I couldn't do the math while driving on converting the kmph to mph so I decided to put in my spedometer from my dx in the cluster...which the only thing I needed to do was trim down the three post that the screws came thru...You'll understand if you have both of them in front of you..or you can just get longer screws....now the only problem with that is that the sir2 gauge cluster has white faces and the dx has black...so my two outside pod circles are white and the center black...looks kinda taky but hey the 8200 redline is just outright sexy......easy remedy get a white spedo(or just face and replace...now if none of what I said in this whole post makes sense.......just get yourself a big ass tach...but what the hell am I rambling about you shouldn't have to look at the tach any damn way!!!
