I measured last year on a body fat scale, don't know how accurate it was and I was about 17%

ok. Generally they get a fairly accurate reading of your legs and use it to estimate the rest of you. Could be off by 3% or more. The hand-held ones do the same thing but with your upper body. If your fat distribution is even then it should be pretty accurate. The best ones combine scales and a hand-held unit so it gets your whole body. But again these are still only estimates.
