And I'll give you benefit of the doubt as you'd know more than I, but I'd still think it would be last resort for me, I wouldn't want to end up in prison for shooting an intruder. Very unlikely/rare I'll grant you, but not impossible.
Now if
they were carrying a gun, I'd def. go for the gun... if it had bullets.
