With that price range and gas mileage being a consideration, I'd tend to look more at loaded up versions of the "compact" cars that aren't really compacts any more. The Civic/Corolla/Sentra/Mazda3 are as big or bigger than the Accord/Camry/Stanza/626 from 15 years ago.

unless you regularly have someone in your backseat i dont see any advantage to a camry or accord over a civic or corolla
if i was looking in that price range i would look at a used 330i sedan with zhp package and 6sp manual, but thats just me

if you want the larger size then accord, although the camry does look better as a 4dr
