Be 100% positive the timing belt is tensioned properly, and the marks on the cam gears correspond with the crankshaft at TDC. If its off by even a tooth, your gas mileage, power, and idle will all be abnormal. How was your gas mileage before the head swap?
If you never set your ignition timing in the first place, or you need to reset the timing belt, you need to get a timing light, rent one from autozone, or borrow one. The cheapest type will work just fine.
