Default 2007 Acura TSX octane

anybody have any thoughts on running this car on 87 octane? With the price of gas going higher all the time, do I really need to pour 91 octane into the tank?

Your gas mileage will suffer and so will the car's performance -- even if you're not driving the car hard.

The reduction in gas mileage will likely cost you more than the $3 difference between 15 gallons of 87 and the same quantity of 91 octane.

it's not a matter of affording, is it necessary, that was the question.

in a pinch using 87 will work, but as stated it's not recommended as it is poinless. The ECU will only add more fuel to prevent knock, your car will lose performance and gas mileage. test it out if you don't believe us.

just put 91 in it...its not worth messing the car up. its only about 5 bucks more to fill up with premium instead of the low grade stuff

The TSX's engine is a high-compression engine. It needs the higher octane to prevent pre-ignition/detonation. You can put in lower octane, but your fuel economy will suffer (which will make you have to put in even more gas), and you won't be able to drive your car to its limits (you'll have to drive like a grandma).

It's only a few dollars more to use premium. You get more fuel detergents, you can drive harder, and you get better fuel economy. The few dollars is worth it.

If you're brave, which I've tested and done hundreds of times, you could put plus and then add 3oz of 100% acetone to a full tank of gas. I've done it in my 2003 Accord and even felt a HP increase even with the car fully loaded!!!

The bottle of 16 oz only cost $3.00 or so from a beauty supply store. If you google acetone, you will find a bunch of websites that have proven this to work! In fact, I used it on my 1997 Civic DX and have gotten as high as 47 MPG!!! I have about 42 MPG with acetone. But you might be afraid to try it. No damage has been done at all over a year of doing this. It works and after speaking to an employee from Chrsyler, he told me that he have been doing this for a couple of years and has seen positive results!
