Racing Helmets ??!!
I dont know if this is the right forum, but i would assume an autocross helmet would be sufficient for the drag strip. My question is what type or kind of helmet would be considered regulation, and where can I find one for a decent price? Thanks in advance:thumbup:

There are no drag racing specific helmets, though if your car runs faster than the 11.9 limit for NHRA tracks, they may mandate a competition helmet, which would be SA rated since the lining is fire resistant unlike an M helmet. That really is the only difference between the two helmet ratings, both are designed to save your melon.

I thought M helmets were only rated for single impact? SA rated for multiple impacts?
At Sears Point (for the Wed. night drags) if you're car is faster than 14.00 you have to wear a helmet. But they don't enforce SA or M. It doesn't even have to fit. I had to borrow one from a friend when I went because I didn't think I would go that fast. :dunno:

NO, Helmets of any kind are only rated for ONE impact at full force, and are designed to hold together for sufficient protection from subsequent hits there-after. Once any helmet, SA or M rated, takes a hit [even dropping accidently from waist level to the ground], it should be replaced, though some places like Bell will X-Ray helmets to check for a safety compromise.
