Wow, that does seem like pretty valuable info if you're trying to cut down.

when we first got it, i think i was keeping the heat at like 64 at night (not really sure why), but i looked at the energy usage on my phone and the heat would come on so frequently while we were sleeping it looked ridiculous, so now i leave it at 60.

i never knew how often it came on before i got this thing.

Think I may pull the trigger today. Lowe's has a $30 of $150 online coupon + $10 Lowe's statement credit from AMEX = $222 out the door (with tax). Only downside is I would probably install with the wall plate for now, and do a more "professional" installation with additional drywall down the road.

The in-laws bought one for their house and love it. They're moderately tech savvy.

When I move into a house for med school next year I'll be picking one up.

Installed.

Had a little trouble originally and brought in some help. Had to use the electrical box plate that comes with the Nest. Even though it is a new house, they installed the original thermostat over a metal box.

The have a smoke detector now, too. They are suppose to work together to help determine AWAY better or something. I did notice that the auto schedule doesn't seem to work without wifi access and since I live in the middle of nowhere that's not going to happen anytime soon. I still really like the unit even if I can't use the iPhone remote and all; and it will definitely be coming with us when we move!
