I told the guy "are you blind? I have a flat tire ... you call that hanging out?" Basically I gave him the typical ACLU shit that I give the local sheriffs office, and he gave up, but that's not the only time that's happened.
So some asshole says he was HS and you believed him? Atleast ask for identification and or his credentials before you go blasting how bad you think HS sucks and how intrusive the Patriot Act is.

Freedom isn't free.

By filter out the window dressings, do you mean ignore logic? I support Bush because the man has values and thought processes above and beyond b*tching about every step the government takes. What would you like to see happen in this country? What would make it the "perfect" government to you? Going back to isolationism? Or would you just complain that now wearent doing anything for the less fortunate countries? Liberals must be so miserable being unhappy with everything all of the time. Try some prozac or valium or something, huh?
Let me set something straight, I support the military all the way. Anyone who doesn't is just a moron. I have many friends in the armed forces, and I support them 100%. Killing sucks but if it's in the line of duty, so be it. All soldiers can do is follow orders - that's what they're here for. Now, wether or not those orders should be followed is another question, but like I said - they don't have that option. Now lets talk about Bush's values ... it's all about the big bucks.

I believe you are confusing your own privacy with freedom. What specific freedoms have you lost as a result of the Patriot Act? I know that I have not lost any, and as long as I am a law abiding citizen I do not think I ever will. And as for my privacy, as long as I do not go around creating a pattern of suspicous activity I am not going to be giving the government any reason to invade my privacy. But if for some reason they need to I will gladly open up and give them the information they need, because I have nothing to hide and hope I can aid them in their investigation in any way possible.

That's not the point. The point of the matter is you have your right to privacy no matter what. If you want to go a park with crowded people and just sit there, you have the right to without fear that HS or someone will come take you away thinking you're a terrorist. You have the right to NOT have your telephone bugged just because you're different that what is "normal". You have your rights to privacy and that was established in our Constitution along with the Freedom of Speech to protest what you feel is wrong. If you can't appreciate that DVP, I dont know what to tell you. If I wanted to create a pattern of suspicious activity, as an American, I have the right to do it. If you gladly open up yourself to the government, you're just letting them control you. I for one will not be controlled. Why do you think we have the right to privacy and all the freedoms in this country? It's to maintain the democracy we so enjoy.

You completely missed the point. The Patriot Act, while flawed in some aspects, does not give anyone the right to infringe on your freedoms for being different or not "normal". I appreciate the fact that I have a right to privacy, I also appreciate the fact that my government is doing something to prevent some terrorist from infringing on my right to live. I fell more secure knowing that my government can aggresively go after suspected terrorist so that they do not fly a plane into, or detonate a car bomb under the building I am now.

If I wanted to create a pattern of suspicious activity, as an American, I have the right to do it.
You certainly do. And the government has every right to crawl up our ass with a fine tooth comb and a microscope. And I have every right to let them know that you are. Why? So that another 9/11 does not happen. And opening up to the government does not mean they control you. Please come join reality. My best friend has a key to my house, does that mean he has the right to come in and do as he pleases whenever he pleases? Can he set up hidden cameras in my house to watch my wife and I unbeknownst to us? Absolutely not. But if he has a reason that he needs to get in he has a key, same reason I have a key to his place. It is the same thing with the government...be a law abiding citizen and you have nothing to worry about. Give the government reason to investigate you to prempt the next terrorist attack on the US and you should expect someone from the Department of HS to knock on your door. Its simple really.

9-11 this .... 9-11 that. When will the right wing stop using it as an excuse for everything? You loose your civil rights from 9-11. You have to go to war with a country that doesnt have WMD to prevent another 9-11. Our economy sucks because of 9-11. Get over it, it's done with.

Obviously you have not learned from the past. I suppose you have a grand idea on how to prevent terrorist attacks from happening here in the US or abroad? And did you happen to see the NY Posts article Saturday on the connection between Al Quaida and Iraq and how much help Saddam gave Osama Bin Laden. And that there was not 1 meeting between Atta and Iraqi intelligence in Prague but 3.

I guess you guys are all more entertained by going back and forth with each other than taking the time to reply to my posts which are non-inflammatory presentation of my views on the topic. Oh well.

You may now resume your pissing match.
