For the record, XBOX and PS officials have officially shot down the rumors of there being no game discs or being able to trade/buy used.

From a business standpoint, they'd be losing a lot of customers. From a practical standpoint, they won't be willing to throw in a big enough harddrive or offer enough cloud space if every game you had to play had to be loaded digitally.

Anyway, I'll be skipping EA this time around. Picked up a game from steam that's of the same genre, and best of all: It isn't made by EA.

After perusing around reddit, this is a full fledged shit-storm. EA is refusing refunds on digital copies on a game that is basically unplayable for a lot of people right now. This is crushing the developer's good name.

I wonder how delayed the OSX version is going to be now.

I just finally ordered a PS3, and if that's the outlook on the future, then I'm sure my budget will only allow for select games. At least now I can borrow games from my brother.
Backwards compatibility is out, but the used game thing is nothing but a rumor.

EA isn't the developer, Maxis is.

Maxis = subsidiary of Electronic Arts, circa 1997

Although Maxis did make the game, the overarching EA "philosophy" is stamped all over the game.

I just filled out my Amazon return form. I kept the game sealed and waited for the server problems to subside. They did. Now, all kinds of deeper issues* keep coming up. Fuck it. No game is worth this headache.

*Deeper Issues include ...

0 dependency logic on Industrial and Commercial zoning

AI logic says to take the shortest route at all times, which creates havoc for road planning

and crap like this ...
HRXLUGw.gif

crap like this too (where residential land isn't properly transforming)

finally ... there is no idea of sims with individual lives. This is a major flaw. If you follow a sim (a feature), you'll notice that they'll leave for work and go to the closest place of employment. When they leave work, they head to the closest home. If the place of employment is full, they go to the next place. If the closest home is full, they go to the next. It's impossible to improve traffic congestion when all of the destinations are random.

I have been playing this game since the release and haven't experienced any of these bugs with the exception of minor traffic problems (which were easily fixed).

It's my understanding that you're in the minority.

There has been a document released that there is movement in the offline gaming pool. A lot of people are pissed.

I guess I could be lucky. I also experienced some server issues in the first week. But not since.
