i had a HP ZE4xxx for a while before i sold it. it was a solid laptop and had no problems with it.

just something to add it, HP refused to give me a $100 rebate. same story for many others. :nono: office depot covered their ass by sending me a $100 credit.

I would go to toshiba. I heard compac, since hp is made by compac, that if you wanted to upgrade something on it you have to go directly to compac and buy it from them. Which means they can put any price, on the upgrades.

I got a toshiba.. much nicer than other ones ive used. No problems except a damn glitch in XP where you cant restart... you can turn it on/off all day, but when you restart, XP wont come back on for a little while.

My sister has a Toshiba laptop, it's been pretty good so far, and it was cheaper than the rest.

compaq presario 2800t....

about 1" thick
14" viewable screen
1.6 p4
384 md ddr ram
40 gig hdd
hotswap floppy & 48x cdrw drives
gave ~ $1200 1.5 years ago & not a single problem. i tote it around @ work & do ADSL installs w/ it & use it @ home. i also do DJ gigs w/ it ever now & then.

i keep it in a heavily padded bag cause it's so thin. if i were to recommend one to somebody, i'd say to get a dell if you think it's gonna have a "hard knock" life cause those thing are fuking "rugged" ...as in THICK & meant to take some abuse

:dunno:
