who makes better laptops? HP or Toshiba?
No... compaq makes shit. My old roomie's compaq laptop was in at least twice in 6 months for repairs, and he, as a computer science major and longtime C repair technician, could not for the life of him make that thing go more than 2 days without crashing...
Toshiba are far better laptops...
And Compaq's server equipment is subpar IMO... go with Dell or Apple...

i have a toshiba. i've had to take it in twice in the first year. one time, my floppy died, other time hard drive died.
my co-worker has a laptop, within fist 6 months, had to have lcd repaired, motherboard replaced, and mouse pointer fixed

Compaq Proliant servers are in more high profile server rooms than many might think. I have one. It's just an old 1850R dual 550 system, but it's rock solid and well built.
Dell also makes good server equipment.
Laptop... I'd go with Alienware, then a Dell, then a Sony, then possibly a Toshiba and I don't think I'd consider HP/Compaq for a laptop.

HP/Compaq are good units if you get the non-retail models (retail = pavillion/presarios)... I would look into the Compaq Evo notebooks and mobile workstations.... they are spendy but BAD-A$$!!! They are basically updated and re-badged HP Omnibooks, and they are SICK!
