No... compaq makes shit. My old roomie's compaq laptop was in at least twice in 6 months for repairs, and he, as a computer science major and longtime C repair technician, could not for the life of him make that thing go more than 2 days without crashing...

Toshiba are far better laptops...

And Compaq's server equipment is subpar IMO... go with Dell or Apple...

when considering an HP computer-related product vs anything else, the answer should always be NOT-HP

they make good calculators...

Agreed. Laptops are not serverside equipment though.

Compaq Proliant servers are in more high profile server rooms than many might think. I have one. It's just an old 1850R dual 550 system, but it's rock solid and well built.

Dell also makes good server equipment.

Laptop... I'd go with Alienware, then a Dell, then a Sony, then possibly a Toshiba and I don't think I'd consider HP/Compaq for a laptop.

HP also makes some killer servers and switches. HP is bigger than just the computers/laptops/printers/calculators you see in peoples homes. Their server equipment can easily run with the best.

HP/Compaq are good units if you get the non-retail models (retail = pavillion/presarios)... I would look into the Compaq Evo notebooks and mobile workstations.... they are spendy but BAD-A$$!!! They are basically updated and re-badged HP Omnibooks, and they are SICK!
