you're still confused. you're adding the $3 refund twice.

I didn't add the refund twice, I said they got the $3 back so that make's up for the other $1 out of their $10, sorry I didn't write it all out, didn't think this was a legal and binding contract:fawk:

heres my explaination
follow the numbers
3 people came in with 3 $10 bills
that makes it $30
the room cost $25
which means each paid <25/3= 8.33>
when they got their 1 dollar back...each in fact paid $9.33
9.33 x 3 = $28
the busboy got the remaining $2...
here's the trick...
they were suppose to pay $8.33 each...so each should get back $1.67 <10 - 8.33 = 1.67>
but the busboy only gave them back 1 dollar..
which makes them pay $9.00 compare to the real $8.33
all in all....
they each lost $.67
get it??

Everyone that quoted me and said I was wrong or whatever....
I heard this riddle when I was probably 10 years old, however it was asked incorrectly this time. The question is not supposed to be how much did each guy pay, the riddle is supposed to show the math and ask where the last dollar is.
I didn't post what I did because I was confused, I posted what I did to keep the riddle going, because some people replied "duh, they paid 9 dollars" without realising that it doesn't add up.
It just depends on how you think about it, some ways it adds up, some ways it doesn't.
