Default Higher mileage guys out there...

So I'm at about 83k miles on my car, and the burning oil issue has been pissing me off lately.

FYI, i'm using castrol gtx non-syn 10w-30 and OEM (older style big) oil filters. If i'm aggressive, i'll burn a quart every 1000. If i take it easy, but not grandma, I'll get 1500-1800 miles to burn a quart.

I was told from a Honda-Tech member that going to 15w-30 will slow the burning. He was having the same issues with his high mileage LS-Vtec block, and once he did the switch it didnt burn nearly as much.

So my question is: Is it bad for the oil pump or anything related to go up in the weight of the oil? Because I'm due for an oil change in about 400 miles, and I was seriously considering going to 15w30.

I know of a number of instances where friends with higher mileage cars up the weight of their oil because of their mileage. I even have a friend with a 90-93 accord with like 150k and he's using 20w30 or something crazy like that.

i've taken it to the dealership under warranty, and they found nothing worth noting. compression numbers were even and good, no obvious leaks (none) were found. They even took a camera in my cylinders and found nothing out of the norm. For the most part, I've learned to accept the fact that its probably my rings going out.

DC2 told me about how I might need a new oil pan gasket, which I will replace when i get time to do so...

My Vigor has 122K on it and will burn oil when cold when you flog the living **** out of it, but all cars do that.

My oil is still gold after 3,000 miles. h:

340,000 miles and burn about a quart in the meantime.
